Paracosm House presenteert Josephina van de Water’s eerste solo tentoonstelling en boekpublicatie ‘Cloud Cuckoo Land’.
‘Cloud Cuckoo Land’ is een imaginaire wereld die wordt bewoond door kleurrijke dieren die graag opscheppen over hun grootsheid. Deze megalomane dieren willen met hun pompeuze rijmelarijen de wetten van de samenleving overstijgen. Het is geen willekeurige fantasie maar een weerspiegeling van onze eigen ‘cloud’ en laat zien dat vrijheid van denken niet langer onaantastbaar is.
Josephina van de Water is een multidisciplinaire kunstenares die fascinerende fictieve werelden creëert. Haar projecten bestaan uit papier sculpturen en sets, die tot leven worden gebracht door ze in stopmotion te fotograferen. Nadien is elk beeld met de hand ingekleurd op celluloid film zoals de eerste kleuren films aan het begin van de 20ste eeuw. Deze handgekleurde beelden zijn gebruikt voor zowel vier korte stopmotion films alsook het boek.

'Cloud Cuckoo Land' is an imaginary world inhabited by colourful animals who love to brag about their greatness. These megalomanic animals, with their pompous doggerels, want to transcend the laws of society. It is not an arbitrary fantasy but a reflection of our own 'cloud' and reveals that freedom of thought is no longer untouchable.
Josephina van de Water is a multidisciplinary artist who creates fascinating fictional worlds. Her projects consist of paper sculptures and sets, which are brought to life by photographing them in stop motion. Afterwards, each image is coloured by hand on celluloid film like the first colour films at the beginning of the 20th century. These hand-coloured images she uses for her stopmotion films and book.
